  1. I would like to react to the question of chapter one:

I think Cole doesn't respect adults and authority at all, but this also might be bec ause no one ever took care of him, adults and authority did nothing for him so why would he do anything for them, he thinks. Cole couldn't believe his parents let this happen to him. What jerks! p9 He thinks nothing is his fault. He grew up disobeying the rule because he never had love or teaching. He might also have become violent to let people know that they shouldn't do anything with him and because his father also hit him. When my dad used a belt on me, I know he's trying to hurt me. p120 I think island life and the spirit bear have really changed Cole's view on the world.

  2. I have chosen for chapter 12.

Cole has been mauled by the spirit bear and has pain everywhere on his body. He now knows that if he makes the spirit bear angry (like spitting on him or punching him), the bear would attack again and he would have more pain than he already has. Also, he wants to know how the skin of the bear feels because he already thinks that the bear is going to kill him.

  3. I chose the Question of chapter 1:
Cole was a boy who didn't respect adults and authority. If you would only hear this story you think Cole was a bad boy. One thing is sure Cole is a boy with problems, But is this his own oppurtiunity or is this caused by his parents. The way Cole looked at other people was awful but on page 9 in the book you read why and how he is looking at his parents:
`He hated his parents. His mom acted like a scared Barbie doll, always looking good but never fighting back or standing up to anyone. His dad was a bullheaded drinker with a temper. He figured everything was Cole´s fault.´
If you read this you might know how his parents were acting to him. They never told him his possitive points and were only looking at their selves and not looking at their son. In my opinion his parents made Cole thinking adults are bad persons because his parents were acting like this to him. And Cole knew this and when he asked authority for help they didn´t even look at him. They also didn´t see the things the parents were doing to Cole. The authority only saw the problems Cole made, but these problems were actually made by his parents.

  4. Chapter 12
When Spirit Bear comes back, why do you think Cole chooses not to spit on him, but instead touch him?

    ----

Because he realized fighting such a big animal is no use. An animal as big as his own problems can't be fought, so he decides to touch it unharmfully instead of trying to kill the beast.

  5. I choose to do the question of chapter 7:

Cole plans on escaping the island, yet still attempts to kill Spirit Bear. What does this say about Cole, and his respect for life?

He might think that he can own the earth, and that everything and everybody has to be scared of him. He wants to kill the bear because it is not scared of him. And Cole can't stand that. He wants to escape because he doesn't believe in that whole healing process.

  6. Chapter 7:
Cole plans on escaping the island, yet still attempts to kill Spirit Bear. What does this say about Cole, and his respect for life?

I think Marij's right when looking at the book and its description, but if Cole were an actual person, I think that he was just too pissed to let go of the idea of killing the bear. It's very close to what Marij mentioned, but I think the situation is slightly different. I determined this by looking at the next scene: Cole felt sorry for the young Sparrows when the trees fell down. This shows us that Cole changed his vision and does not believe -or does not believe anymore- that he can 'own the world'.

  7. Chapter 3
How does Garvey convince Cole to eat the groceries?

Garvey convices Cole to eat the groceries by saying that Cole's probably afraid of eating it. Cole doesn't want to be afraid of anything, because he thinks that everyone and everything must be afraid of him. To prove that he isn't afraid of anything, he eats the groceries. When he stops with the last type of groceries, Garvey did the same as in the beginning: he says that Cole's scared of eating it. Then, Cole eats it to prove that he's really not afraid of anything.

  9. Chapter 3
How does Garvey convince Cole to eat the groceries?

First of all, Garvey starts to ask Cole what he didn’t liked about life. After a conversation, Garvey unpacked the bag he had carried with him. In the back were groceries and he asked if Cole wanted to eat it. Firstly Cole refused, but then Garvey abused Cole for a frightened person. But Cole wanted that everyone had to be scared of hime, and he wasn’t scared of anything, so he eated the groceries: flour, sugar, baking soda, butter, a raw egg and he drank some thick molasses. He finished by shaking salt directly in his mouth. So he wanted t prove he wasn’t afraid of anything.

    Chapter 1
Question: How does cole view adults and authority?

    Answer:

he hated their fake concern because he knew that they didn’t cared about him. He also discorvered early that ‘being referred’was the adult term for passing the buck.

Each time he got warned his parents always said: ‘don’t screw up this time, it is your last chance’ but whatever happened he could always count on having one more last chance.

He hated his parents. His mom acted like a scared Barbie doll , always lokking good but never fighting back or standing up to anyone. His dad was a bullheaded drinker with a temper. He figured everyting as cole’s fault, according to Cole. Because his parents were divorced they visited him separately. That’s how much they thought about themselves and about him, Cole thought.

I hope that i’ve answered the question fully. :)

  12. Hello miss,
this is the question i chose: Chapter 12
When Spirit Bear comes back, why do you think Cole chooses not to spit on him, but instead touch him?

I think that he didn't do it because he had a feeling of trust. The bear didn't attack him. In stead of attacking, the bear lowerd his head. Cole didn't spit on him and he touched him.

  13. I´ve chosen for the question of chapter 12

When Spirit Bear comes back, why do you think Cole chooses not to spit

I think he realised that he was going to die.
Also, there is no use for spitting, because the bear is big and strong. Cole on the other hand is weak and heavily damaged.

  14. chapter 7:

I think Cole didn't have much respect for life, because the bear had done nothing to him. So why would you kill it than? But I think Cole was used to just react agressive to everything he doesn't likes.

  15. Chapter 7:
Cole plans on escaping the island, yet still attempts to kill Spirit Bear. What does this say about Cole, and his respect for life?

Well firstly it says that he doesn't care that people had spent money on him and he doesn't use it so it is disrespectful I think. It also says he hasn't got any respect for the nature. Maybe this is the fault of his parents but it is not only their fault . At the end he began to trust en respect people en the nature , so the expedition was useful.

  16. Chapter 7:
Cole plans on escaping the island, yet still attempts to kill Spirit Bear. What does this say about Cole, and his respect for life?

The thing Cole does to the bear says a lot about how he's attached to life. By attacking someone/something that didn't do anything to him just to show his currage doesn't make sense.
This action also says something about how he thinks about the lifes of others. I personally think he doesn't care about others lifes and pain because his parents also didn't do it. From that perpective you know Cole looks a lot like his parents. His parents also don't care about others, they only do something as long as it's good for themselves.

  17. Question about Chapter 12:
The bear almost killed him, while Cole barely could do anything against it, so he finally realized the bear was stronger than him, and that Cole should be afraid of him.
When the bear came back after his attack, Cole thought the bear would kill him, so he thought that he should at least feel how the animal which was going to kill him felt like.
